Deploying Portable Dialysis and Laboratory Water Units

CliniWater positions the Portable Dialysis Unit and Portable Lab Water Unit as the core purification assets. Each unit is housed in a ruggedized, wheeled case (IP65 rated) weighing under 35 kg. The Portable Dialysis Unit accepts raw water from any potable or clarified source and processes it through a 5 µm pre-filter, carbon block, single-pass RO membrane, and a battery of endotoxin-retentive ultrafilters, delivering 2 L/min of dialysate-grade water. The Portable Lab Water Unit adds dual-wavelength UV oxidation (185/254 nm) and a 0.05 µm absolute filter to produce Type I ultrapure water (18.2 MΩ·cm) for point-of-care testing and field lab use. Both units operate on 110–240 VAC, 50/60 Hz, with an optional 24 VDC input from vehicle batteries.

Technical Note: The RO membrane in the portable dialysis unit must be flushed with permeate for 5 minutes after every use to prevent biofouling during storage. If deployed infrequently, store the membrane in a 1% sodium bisulfite preservative solution.

Enabling Dental Emergency and Triage Water Supply

The Portable Dental Water Unit provides up to 3 L/min of purified water (< 10 µS/cm) for emergency dental procedures. CliniWater provides a compact training module delivered via a ruggedized tablet, covering: (1) source water classification using the Hardness Test Kit and Total Chlorine/pH Test Kit; (2) selection of the appropriate purification train based on water quality; (3) system priming and air-bleeding; (4) QC acceptance criteria for clinical use. A laminated decision matrix in the lid of each transport case guides the operator: if hardness > 200 mg/L as CaCO₃, add an ion-exchange Softener Cartridge; if chlorine > 2 mg/L, install a second carbon block. Teams practice setup and QC verification within a target time of 20 minutes.

Technical Note: In cold environments (< 5 °C), the portable units’ RO membranes lose permeate output significantly. Position the unit inside a heated tent or enclosure. The control module has a low-temperature safety lock that prevents pump operation below freezing to avoid ice damage.

Establishing Connectivity and Documentation in Austere Environments

Each mobile unit is equipped with a satellite-enabled data logger that transmits water quality parameters (conductivity, temperature, particle count) and GPS coordinates to a cloud-based fleet management portal accessible to the home-base logistics team.
